Whenever I ask what people want to see on the blog (and thank you to all of you who take the time to respond!), New York City coffee shops are always high on the list – and particularly pretty ones. So today I’m excited to bring you possibly the prettiest coffee shop in all of NYC!
Felix Roasting Co.
Felix Roasting Co. is a coffee shop, but as you can see from the spectacular interiors, it takes “coffee shop” to another level. The space was decorated by the immensely talented Ken Fulk, who is known for his glamorous and fantastical style (his Kips Bay Showhouse “Magical Menagerie” dining room was a colorful wonderland!). Truly every detail is considered and beautiful, from the domed copper ceiling, to the hand-drawn wallpaper, all the way down to the terrazzo floors.
The back room features a cozy blue velvet banquette, chic portrait art, and plenty of cafe tables for lingering over a cappuccino.
Ken and the Felix Roasting Co. team wanted to create a sanctuary from the bustling midtown streets, and they certainly achieved that. The location (31st and Park) isn’t known for its charm (it’s more of an office-y, work-y area), so it’s actually really amazing to have such an incredible gem right in that spot. Every detail is well considered and brings something special to the space – the teal tile work might be my favorite detail!
The coffee beans at Felix are sourced from all over the world and roasted in Texas. The almond, cashew, pepita, and oat milks are made in-house, while the baked goods are brought in from from the trippy downtown bakery Supermoon Bakehouse.
At Felix they pride themselves on their innovative drinks – here you can see the process of their torched-to-order Hickory Smoked S’mores Latte. To start, the glass is rimmed with dark chocolate, crumbled graham crackers and cinnamon, and the drink is poured – double espresso with house-made graham cracker infused milk. The latte is then placed inside a large bell jar connected to hickory chips. The blowtorch fires them up, creating smoke that envelops the drink.
The hickory smoke is left to permeate for 30 seconds before the bell jar is lifted and the smoke escapes in dramatic fashion.
A house-made salted caramel marshmallow is toasted up as the finishing touch!
I love this spot and highly recommend you stop in (perhaps multiple times) on your next trip to NYC…or just your next trip to midtown!
