It always makes me happy to see unique new stores open up in New York City, so I was really excited when one of my favorite textile designers, Rebecca Atwood, opened a shop in Nolita earlier this year! As you may remember, I’m a huge fan of Rebecca’s bedding – so soft and pretty – and I think she’s just massively talented, not to mention really a kind and friendly person. It’s been fun to follow Rebecca’s small business journey, from dying fabric in her own Brooklyn apartment to now running a business that’s grown to the point of being able to open a brick and mortar shop. I know how difficult that must be to do – and as a New Yorker it’s nice to see a charming boutique open when sometimes it feels that every time a storefront goes empty here it’s quickly filled with another Duane Reade or Chase Bank. I’m especially happy that it’s in Nolita, one of my very favorite neighborhoods in the city (home to a favorite bookstore, McNally Jackson, and a sweet spot I can never resist popping into). I hope you all enjoy this little peek into Rebecca’s shop!
The shop obviously has Rebecca’s bedding, fabric samples, pillows, and more, and in addition they provide a curated selection of unique products from other small business makers, such as candles and pottery, which mix well with Rebecca’s textiles.
Rebecca’s textiles are the kind of things where seeing and touching them in person really gives you a sense of the craftsmanship and detail that goes into making them. Her pieces are meticulously crafted and the quality is stellar – I see them as a high-end product that can add a little luxury to your everyday life. The store is also great simply because it allows one to be able to see the colors and feel the textures in real life, making this a great resource for designers as well as just regular shoppers looking for a special piece for their home.
As I mentioned in my post on the best fall activities in NYC, Rebecca’s store also does fun events like watercolor classes – keep an eye on the site for details as they sell out fast!
