After my recent trip downtown to Magnolia Bakery, I felt a desire to try my hand at recreating their classic yellow cupcakes at home. I pulled out my trusty Magnolia Bakery cookbook and got to work. The results were delicious!
I hit a bit of a speed bump in the middle here. The cupcakes were all baked up nicely and I made the first frosting that I saw in the book – a simple confectioner’s sugar + butter concoction. It was a nice white color, but the flavor left something to be desired. I asked my sister what I should do (as she was to be the recipient of a large number of these cupcakes), and she voted for chocolate. This was where things took a turn for the better. Moral of the story: flip through the whole frosting section of the book before choosing one!
Other moral: Chocolate is always the answer.
Get the cupcake recipe here and the chocolate buttercream recipe here. Helpful hint: I didn’t feel like searching for self-rising flour, so I made my own by following these instructions.
Ok…it is Monday morning and I decided to check on new comments in my blog then I checked on your blog again and I see this? Now, I know what my breakfast is gonna be: SWEETS. OMG!! What delicious cupcakes you just made. I will try this at home soon. Thanks for sharing the recipe link.
Yum! Love homemade cupcakes. I love the Sprinkles frosting recipe. I actually cheat and just use cake mix from a box, but a slamming homemade frosting recipe takes it to the next level!
I have to try that frosting recipe, I love Sprinkles! And that is such a great idea, homemade frosting totally elevates cake from a box. The frosting makes all the difference!
