Apple Tart with Salted Caramel

apple tart-4106

There’s not much I like more than an apple tart on puff pastry with some kind of delicious honey or caramel topping. I’d been wanting to try Smitten Kitchen’s version for a while, and when I finally made it for my sister and brother, they loved it. It’s relatively easy – I used an all-butter puff pastry, which I highly recommend. For some reason the one I bought was round (not square, like I’m used to), so it looked a little more like an apple pizza than the pretty mosaic tart that Smitten Kitchen made! No matter though – when it comes to baking, looks are nice, but taste is most important… and this tart does not disappoint in that regard.

The puff pastry is spread out and topped with sliced apples, then dotted with cubes of butter and sprinkled with a little sugar.

While the tart starts cooking, you cook up a nice caramel glaze.

Caramel goes on…

Bake a little more, slice, and enjoy!

Yum!! It’s funny you say you were surprised the puff pastry was round, in France, Belgium and Italy it’s always round 🙂
And by the way, making puff pastry is super easy, if you want I can send you my grandpa’s recipe 🙂
