A Few Good Links

This week, I…

– switched my blog host over from Bluehost to Flywheel, mainly because I wanted the automatic backups that Flywheel offers. It should be a pretty seamless transition, but let me know if you notice any technical difficulties or anything!

– attended an event with Kohler on Tuesday for the launch of their new Composed faucet collection. I’ve never thought much about finishes like faucets, shower heads, etc, but after reading Habitat and starting my design course, I’m realizing more and more what an impact they make on a space (something professional designers obviously know all about). Those details are so important to the overall aesthetic of a room and I’m looking forward to learning more about those types of things as my course continues. Anyway, it was a fun event and I’ll be sharing more about it on the blog next week!

– realized that I REALLY need to start cooking again! Ugh. I kind of hate cooking (even though I love reading about cooking, and obviously, eating), so I’ve been all about Seamless for the last few months…and it’s gotten to the point that I just feel disgusting about it. Basically every time I eat takeout I regret it (unless it’s just a salad from sweetgreen or something), and every time I eat food I cooked I feel good. So simple. The thing I hate is how time-consuming it is on the weekends, when I want to relax but also need to write blog posts, work on my design course, clean, do laundry, and attempt to have a social life. I need to make it more of a priority. Hashtag first world problems.

– finally caught up on Game of Thrones – any fans of the show out there? This is random, but did you know that Iwan Rheon (Ramsey Bolton), besides being an actor, is also a musician who makes Jack Johnson-esque acoustic guitar music? He’s SO good at playing evil and sadistic Ramsey on the show that it’s just weird to see him being normal – guess that’s a sign of a great actor!

Now for some links:

Dream job alert: Bon Appetit food editor Alison Roman hosts the web series Sweet Spots, where she goes around NYC exploring the city’s best dessert spots and baking with the pastry chefs. How can I get this gig? The videos are informative and super fun for a New York City sweets addict such as myself.

Funfetti everything: I might need to buy popsicle molds so I can make these Funfetti Birthday Cake popsicles. They’re so pretty and I’m sure incredibly delicious as well.

Something to hold me over until Younger returns (in September, not that I’m counting the days or anything: Odd Mom Out is back!

Sugarfina in NYC: Fellow Upper East Siders/New Yorkers in general: Sugarfina opened their first full-scale Manhattan boutique at 1100 Madison Avenue this week! Sooooo excited to check it out. The little shop in Columbus Circle is super cute but this is closer to me and it’s way bigger, so yay. Actually probably bad for me ’cause #diabetes, but yay.

An awesome kitchen makeover: You have to see this before and after…from cramped and dated to gorgeously airy and light-filled. And my apartment HAS those ugly “before” cabinets…ugh. What I wouldn’t give to get rid of those!

A day in the life: I absolutely love Loeffler Randall, so it was fun to see a peek into founder Jesse Randall’s workday – and unsurprisingly, the LR offices are just gorgeous. Best part of the interview is her “favorite trend for summer” – her answer made me laugh.

Speaking of Loeffler Randall…they still have my Fenton rain booties – one of the best purchases I’ve ever made, without a doubt. Edgy, great-looking, comfortable, and waterproof…love that they just look like regular boots – you can barely tell that they’re rubber. The last time I got my hair cut the woman next to me went crazy over them – she was complimenting me on them and talking about them for a good five minutes straight. I told her they were Loeffler Randall and she had absolutely no idea what that was, so I had to show her on my phone :). I have the non-rain version as well, which are super nice but not quite as comfortable. I’m kind of obsessed with the wooden-heeled pair though.

The book of the summer…is probably going to be Emma Straub’s Modern Lovers (as The Vacationers was in 2014). I liked this interview with her on Man Repeller – she seems like such a fun and down to earth person!

This made me laugh: An unpopular opinion but one that I wholeheartedly share. I just don’t get the beach…it must be part of my pale-skinned DNA or something. It’s like laying and baking in an oven, you can’t get comfortable, you’re dirty, there’s sand all in your stuff, your hands are all sticky with sunscreen…bleh. Best quote: “I might believe I sucked at relaxing if I didn’t enjoy television and snacks so much.” Give me a park or a pool any day!

More from Kips Bay: If you’re a design fan and enjoyed my coverage of the Kips Bay Show House, definitely check out this article on 1st dibs – gorgeous photographs of all the rooms, and in-depth insight from the designers on their work for the house. Loved it.

Have a great and sunny weekend!

I’d love to know more details about your overall experience so far on the design course. I looked on their website since you mentioned it and it seems great, but it’s so much better when you learn about a persons’ experience first hand.

Completely agree with your thoughts on cooking, love to read about; not so fun the actual process, but the reward is #worth it.

Counting the days till Younger as well, On a scale of 1 to 5 how would you rate Odd Mom Out ?

    Have a great weekend!

Hi Maria! Thanks for your comment. A few people have asked about the course so I’m going to work on a post about it. I thought I would wait until I was done but since people are interested I’m definitely happy to share my thoughts on it so far…hope to have that up in the next week or two!

For Odd Mom Out, so far I liked the first season better than this season, so first season a 3 and this one a 2.5 so far. It’s a little wacky but still pretty good!

  2. I just finished Game of Thrones last night. That finale – SO SO GOOD! I am still reeling from it!!!

Also, hilarious that “Ramsey” is also a talented musician. I gotta check him out.

Hope you are having a good week so far!!!
