Recently I had a birthday, and my family made it extra special for me. In addition to spoiling me with amazing presents (can’t wait to share), my favorite meal, and my Mom’s annual homemade birthday cake, there was another sweet surprise: my sister commissioned a custom, one-of-a-kind birthday cake for me from my friends over at Stick With Me Sweets. Chef Susanna Yoon and her incredible team created this absolute masterpiece – a peanut butter entremet mousse cake decorated to look like my favorite of their bonbons. To say I was surprised and utterly delighted would be an understatement. It was truly a masterpiece – both to look at and to eat!

The cake featured a ring of sprinkles around the bottom and gorgeous pink curls of white chocolate adorned the top. The layers inside ranged from silky smooth to creamy to crunchy – a delight of flavors and textures. They made the cake in a peanut butter and jelly flavor since they knew that’s one of my favorite of their bonbons – and decorated the outside with the splatter pattern since I could never stop telling them how much I love it on their Birthday Cake bonbon! Look at how pretty it is, and those elegant chocolate curls…Susanna is so talented!

While I’ve already gushed to all parties involved, I have to reiterate my thanks to my sister for working with the SWM Sweets team to orchestrate such a wonderful surprise for me! She had to carry this delicate item in a cake box from downtown, to midtown, to Penn Station, to an extremely crowded (standing room only) train car…all in the rain (of course) – and somehow it survived intact. No easy feat! Being the dessert enthusiast that I am, I can hardly think of anything more special to receive on my birthday than a cake made just for me by the most talented (and lovely) pastry chef in New York City. I can’t thank Susanna and her team enough for creating this piece of edible art for me.
