I love listening to podcasts (it all started with Serial for me, as I’m sure it did for many), but unfortunately I don’t exactly have an extensive list of ones that I love. Pretty much the only one I listen to every week is Pod Save America, and then my friend got me into Bitch Sesh which is pretty hilarious (and lowbrow, it’s about Bravo shows – don’t judge me!). Anyway I’m really excited because I just discovered a podcast that’s been around for a while and I can’t believe I didn’t know about it. It’s called How to Decorate, and it’s put out by Ballard Designs. One of the great things is that even though it’s put out by a corporation (rather than a small business or individual), it’s totally not at all sales-y and still feels very personal (and I’m a big fan of Ballard anyway, so I don’t mind hearing about their products when they do talk about them). The three hosts are Caroline, who runs the Ballard blog (which is really, really good, by the way!), Taryn, who runs the product design team, and Karen, who is head of branding for Ballard…and they’re really fun and charming. A lot of the time I abandon podcasts because I find the hosts unappealing, and in this case it’s the opposite. These ladies are just fun – their personalities shine through, they keep it entertaining as well as informative, and they just have a great rapport together overall.
So many things about this podcast are great. They interview awesome designers like Mark D. Sikes, Erin Gates, Bunny Williams (to name a few), and they actually ask really good questions – (no fluff and nothing generic), about their decorating advice, how they got into designing, etc. On that note, you have got to listen to the Mark D. Sikes episode – I was shocked to learn how he wound up getting into interior design initially! They also answer inquiries that readers send in, and talk about design dilemmas and triumphs of their own. It’s really just a fun and informative podcast about decorating, and if you’re into interior design I think you’ll love it!
Do you guys have any podcasts you love, and especially ones about decorating? Let me know in the comments!
