La Churreria

My sister and I were recently discussing the absence of churros in NYC (or anywhere). As kids, we loved getting them in our local mall, and with the overabundance of cupcakes and other baked goods in the city you would think someone would’ve tapped into the churro market! As fate would have it, soon after this discussion we found La Churreria, a tiny little Mexican place in Nolita. My sis and I excitedly made our way over there, and we were not disappointed! The churros themselves were moist, crisp, and sugar covered (ie, perfect) and they came with a little pot of rich, melted dipping chocolate on the side. They were served warm and with no trace of sogginess or grease. The place itself was tiny, blissfully uncrowded, and charming, and the espresso with condensed milk I ordered was a perfect accompaniment. Cannot wait to go back to this place!

  1. You are making my mouth water! I first tried churros in Madrid when I was studying abroad. YUMMMM! It was totally worth the weight gain to have these every morning for breakfast! 🙂

  2. Those absolutely amazing! Sadly I've only ever had a churro at 6 Flags Great America (sad) and I will definitely be needing to try some authentic ones.

  6. Well, there's always the random churro sellers on the NR train platform at 59th St! I don't know how, but they just seem to appear with a shopping cart full of churros. Note – I'm not advocating actually eating these – haha! 😉
