The 2017 Coastal Living Idea House: Seaside Perfection by Mark D. Sikes

This weekend I went to Rhode Island with my friends Will and Toby, and we had such a fun time exploring Newport and Providence! The biggest highlight was visiting the 2017 Coastal Living Idea House designed by Mark D. Sikes. I’d been dying to go ever since I heard about it, but I wasn’t sure if I’d get the chance. Then when I saw Monica’s gorgeous post about Newport I immediately texted my friends and was like, when are we going? Luckily, being design lovers as well, they were totally game!

I’m so, so glad we went because it was even better than I expected. Mark Sikes did such an amazing job of mixing every shade of blue under the sun and layering in tons of to-die-for pattern and texture to create a blue and white dream of a seaside home. I was seriously so impressed – he stayed within such tight parameters (basically, blue and white everything!), but still every room felt distinct. His decorating is quite traditional, and yet by layering in gorgeous modern art and paying attention to the tiniest details, he created a space that feels fresh, modern, and anything but boring!

So many patterned lampshades, which add a great touch of detail!

The kitchen cabinets were the most lovely shade of navy.

This banquette felt super cozy and inviting.

I died for this little butler pantry! I love the wallpaper and the papered ceiling is such a fun surprise. It works so well to highlight the trim.

The living room was gorgeous and inviting – it’s the first room you walk into upon entering the house and is open to the kitchen.

This bedroom was my favorite, favorite room. So many wonderful patterns! Look at those coffered ceilings! So cozy and the wallpaper is perfect on them. The curtains are such a great layer over the wallpaper.

On the right is an example of the modern art pieces that Mark incorporated throughout the house – I particularly loved this one.

These botanical drawings (paintings?) are too gorgeous, and layered over the wallpaper…so good. That headboard, also amazing. And I love that he did swing arm lamps pretty much everywhere.

This bathroom was right off the bedroom – I loved the wallpaper and that painterly shade is so, so good. That painting in the window is Kate Schelter, one of my favorite artists. Her coastal art fit perfectly into the showhouse’s aesthetic.

I’ll have more to share soon from the 2017 Coastal Living Idea House, including the absolutely stunning master bedroom. Stay tuned!
