A Few Questions With…Julia of Lemon Stripes

Today I’m so excited to have another installment of A Few Questions With… (the first interview is here, if you missed it), featuring Julia of Lemon Stripes. Julia is a blogger turned entrepreneur whose online shop, the Lemon Stripes Store, is stocked up with lovely paper goods, jewelry, decor items, and more. She’s pulled together a wonderfully curated collection of gorgeous, fun items that would brighten up anyone’s home or wardrobe-and make wonderful holiday gifts! I’m thrilled to share this little interview that I did with Julia.

Me: What made you decide to start the Lemon Stripes online boutique?
Julia: I’ve always wanted to own a store, ever since I was a little girl. I was at a point in my life at the beginning of this year where I hated my full time job, I already had a following, I had a husband that supported my goals, and we don’t have any children yet. It was kind of the perfect mix and I just went for it. It was a terrifying decision and a huge risk but I’m so happy that I did it.

Me: How do you pick/find the items to sell?
Julia: I started out by just picking products that I personally love. I realized soon afterwards that this strategy didn’t always work so now I pick what I love but also pieces that are being buzzed about and other people are coveting because that’s what sells!

Me: What are your favorite items that you carry?
Julia: I love all the Loren Hope jewelry but especially this Alex Cuff, this Champagne Candle smells unreal, and I wear this Julie Vos Coin Necklace almost every day. For a fun little gift, I also love this pink notepad.

Me: What is your favorite thing about operating an online store?
Julia: Having a flexible schedule is really nice. I can wake up, work out, and eat lunch when I want to. I’m the boss so I get to make all of the rules.

Me: What is the hardest thing?
Julia: That flexible schedule can also be a terrible burden because I never stop working. When you own a business, it takes over your life and finding that work/life balance has been the hardest part so far.

Me: How do you divide your time between working, running the blog, and running the online store?
Julia: I don’t work a full time job anymore so my whole job is running the blog and the store. I try to get the blogging out of the way on the weekends so I can focus on the store during the week but that doesn’t always happen. I haven’t quite figured this all out yet, ask me in a few years. 🙂

Here are a few of my favorite items from Julia’s lovely shop:
Gold Scallop Pillow // Polka Dot Journal // Fornash Kelly Necklace (on sale!) // Sugar Candle

I can’t thank Julia enough for taking the time out to answer my questions. Be sure to check out the Lemon Stripes store and let me know what your favorite items are in the comments! You can also follow along with Julia’s adventures on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

Keep up with York Avenue!
