Lookalike for Less: Hummingbirds Wallpaper

My Mom and Dad are redoing their powder room with Darlene, and they’re searching for wallpapers…which naturally got me searching for wallpapers! de Gournay (as seen above in Aerin Lauder’s dressing room) is like, the Rolls Royce of wallpapers (and absolutely stunning in person), but way out there in terms of price.

I came across a similar looking hummingbirds wallpaper at Anthropologie, which I love:

Vanuatu Twilight wallpaper

Isn’t it pretty? Very de Gournay-esque, I think!

The weirdest thing though, is that the Anthropologie hummingbirds wallpaper is actually a complete dead ringer for Cole and Son Hummingbirds wallpaper (like to the point that I can’t tell the two apart):

Am I crazy? Are they exactly the same?

Like this room, designed by Kathryn Ivey Interiors. Pretty sure it’s the Hummingbirds wallpaper, but it’s honestly hard to tell the difference.

Here’s the Hummingbirds wallpaper in white:

Bailey Quin used the Cole and Son Hummingbirds fabric in a Chicago home she designed, and it’s absolutely amazing:

Those chairs are so good it hurts. I think I need to buy some of that hummingbirds fabric and get a throw pillow made out of it, asap. I’m sure it only costs a bajillion dollars a yard, no biggie.

The Cole and Son Hummingbirds paper is only available to the trade, so not sure on price, but I think it’s safe to assume the Anthropologie wallpaper is a lot less, for more or less the exact same look.

  1. I swore that I’d never want to see wallpaper again after scraping 30+ year old wallpaper from the walls of a house I flipped… but this has me changing my mind a little! (And yes, those two look identical!) I like the white hummingbird wallpaper best.

Love that Cole & Son wallpaper, too, and have used it several times myself! It is to the trade via Lee Jofa and is actually a steal relative to the per roll cost at Anthro. Go figure?!

Ooh actually that makes me wonder, do you happen to know if the fabric is affordable as well? I would love to get some of the white version to make into a throw pillow!

I don’t recall the exact price, but I think it is “relatively” affordable per yard, just like the paper. Very cute print!

  3. I just stumbled on this post trying to find an image of the paper to show a client. Yes, the paper is more affordable than the Anthro and the fabric runs just under $100 per roll. Hope that helps.

Oh weird, I was reading about it and I read that it was an Anthropologie exclusive…plus the name is different…confusing!

Coming in about two years late on this, but we have similar wallpaper in our bathroom and I seem to remember it was about $70/roll. Thibaut Augustine, http://www.thibautdesign.com/catalog/product/details/product/augustine_t4723/material/wallpaper/colorway/document_off_white_176/?s=1

I am late as well here but I have been comparing these three wallpapers, the Anthropologie Vanuatu, the York hummingbird and the Thibaut Augustine. I finally decided on the Augustine but I can’t find it in the USA? Any advice other than a quick trip to the U.K.?

hi all, this is an old post but wanted to share that Anthro and Cole and Son are both the same wallpaper. Anthro gave it another name 🙂 Hope this helps. Many suppliers will name it differently so that you don’t go and buy it cheaper elsewhere such as decorators best or something (yes it’s cheaper there )

It is cole and sons wallpaper and they sell it for way more then you can get it online for! I just bought it for 96 a roll which is more then half what anthropology is selling it for!

I bought 3 rolls of the Cole & Son Hummingbird wallpaper at a thrift shop in Salt Lake City for $2 a roll. I ran across your blog while looking for ideas on how to use it. I think it is too busy to do a complete wall.
