Why Not a Tree? A Unique Mothers Day Gift Idea

With the current trend towards minimalism and seemingly everyone and their mom interested in downsizing and decluttering, it can be difficult to come up with a gift idea for Mothers Day that won’t just add to the endless amounts of “stuff” that seem to constantly accumulate. Things like flowers or candy are always nice, but today I’d like to share a gift idea that’s a little more original, as well as great for the planet: a tree!

Treedom is an Italian-based company that offers a simple idea for gift-giving: plant or dedicate a tree with one click. That tree will create a world of good not only for our planet, but also for the farmer who plants and tends to it, and the socioeconomic status of the area where it grows. You can check out this cute video to see how it works:

When you visit Treedom.net, all it takes is one click to buy a tree for your Mom or another loved one. All of the trees will be planted in the Southern part of the world, and you can choose from a variety of options: a Macadamia tree in Kenya, a Spanish cedar in Haiti, a Lemon tree in Senegal, and many more. Using your initial contribution, a farmer will plant the tree in the recipient’s name and take care of it. The tree will be photographed and you can follow along with its growth on Google Maps, share it with friends, and more.

It’s a simple idea that can create a profound impact. As Treedom co-founder Federico Garcea explains it: “Treedom’s philosophy is to involve local farmers and plant trees where they’re most needed. This way, CO2 emissions can be absorbed on a global level, but most importantly we can improve the social and financial conditions of all the farmers, and their families, who are involved in the project.”

Treedom has some special options for Mothers Day, available until May 8th: an Orange tree in Senegal, an Avocado tree in Kenya, a Mango tree in Haiti – even a Cacao tree in Cameroon (perfect for the chocolate lover!) So, this Mothers Day, consider gifting your mom something “made in Italy” that will make as wonderful an impact on the planet as she has made on your life!
