Non-Cliche NYC Art

You guys know I’m always on the lookout for non-cliche New York City art (and own a ton of it). So, even better when it comes to me! Peter Gorman, artist behind Etsy shop BarelyMaps, recently got in touch to bring his New York Stories art print to my attention, and I wanted to share it here because I think it’s awesome! As you can see, it’s a map of NYC created out of New York-based book titles, and your favorite is bound to be in there – I spotted Rosemary’s Baby, The Love Affairs of Nathaniel P., and The Devil Wears Prada (sorry, I liked that).

Peter has kind of a crazy story too – after completing a one-year, 11,000 mile bike tour across the country, he was hit by a car and wound up with a fractured spine and two broken legs. During his recovery, he started designing graphic maps based on places he’d visited during his bike trip – and his maps were born. What an inspiring story!

On the opposite end of the spectrum, I’m also liking these vintage maps of Upper Manhattan and Lower Manhattan that I found on High Street Market:
