Lucite Louis

I debated for a long, long time over getting a chair in my main living space. My couch is somewhat petite, so it was occasionally awkward sitting on it with guests, and often when guests did come I didn’t really have adequate seating (ahh, the joys of studio living!). On the con side, I just felt that a chair would add extra clutter that I didn’t need. But after almost three years living here, I finally bit the bullet and killed two birds with one stone: I got myself extra seating, and I did it by buying a chair that I’ve been DYING to own anyway!

The Louis ghost chair – I’ve wanted one of these for a very, very long time. And it was perfect, because if there’s one place that a ghost chair is necessary, it’s a spot where you don’t want visual space taken up by a piece of furniture. So my fear of a too-cluttered look is somewhat ameliorated. I was concerned about entering the apartment and immediately seeing the back of a piece of furniture-but with the ghost chair, you don’t! You see right through it. Ahh, perfection.

Oh, and the minute I ordered it, I decided it simply wouldn’t be complete without a leopard pillow sitting on it. Turns out I was right. So I ordered this gorgeous linen pillow from Arianna Belle, and I couldn’t be happier with it.

Of course, it’s not a REAL Phillippe Starck Louis ghost chair, because those cost $400. $400 for a plastic chair=no. I checked all over the internet and this one had great reviews on Amazon, so voila! I think it’s a perfect reproduction. I’m not sure that I’ve ever seen an actual (non-knockoff) Louis chair, so I can’t say how similar this guy is to the real deal, but I can say that it’s the look I want and it cost $100 instead of $400. Works for me (this could even be a Lookalike for Less post!).

Interesting fact I learned during my research, for anyone who’s into lucite furniture: the authentic ghost chair is made of polycarbonate, and the reproductions are usually made of acrylic (also known as plexiglas).

I bought the SAME chair for my apartment! I have it at my desk and I just love it–you're totally right too, it doesn't take up that "visual space" in a small apartment!
