Juices

Juice cleanses seem to be all the rage lately, and it being January and all, I’m sure people have been thinking about them more than ever. A few months ago I came close to trying one (well, by “close” I mean I thought about it for a few days and talked incessantly with my sister about it). Two things stopped me: the price, and fear. Juice cleanses are really expensive! And I was afraid I might be totally miserable during it (I really like eating). When I read this, I laughed out loud and felt vindicated in not having done it (seriously, read it. Hilarious). However, I have dipped my toe into the juice world a bit:

I bought this Blueprint Juice on a whim at the grocery store one day, and I recently had one again because it was really quite tasty. (Of course, true to form, I forgo the green juices and choose the one that most resembles a milkshake).

I also tried Organic Avenue after having it recommended to me by two different people, and I guess I chose my drink well because this little Spiced Sweet Potato drink has got me hooked on the place! It was so good that it’s hard to believe it was healthy. It’s composed of purified alkaline water (that’s good for you apparently), cashews, dates, sweet potato, hemp seed, coconut sugar, mesquite, chia seed, cinnamon, and Himalayan pink salt. Unfortunately I think it was a holiday season limited edition flavor, so I’ll have to find a new favorite.

So while I definitely won’t be attempting a juice cleanse anytime soon, I’m still happy about working these into my diet just as a way to get more nutrients and as a healthy, on-the-go snack. I’m not very good at eating vegetables so I like the idea of just drinking a juice and in one easy step getting a bunch of healthy stuff into my body for the day.

I know juice cleanses are a controversial topic, and I think they’re a little extreme/un-doable (for me). If you really want to know my opinion on the topic, just peruse this. Excellent article and I agree 100% with every word of it. (Excellent all around website, by the way).

Have a great weekend!

I wanted to try one also, but whimped out because of my love for food. I love cooking and coming up with new recipes, so juice cleanses probably aren't for me. Also, the price! I love the first link- so hilarious!

    • Yes, the price is a big factor! Much better to just cook veggies, if you're a good chef which it sounds like you are!

  3. I feel the same way as you about juice cleanses, but I do like drinking juices once in awhile. Those juices you picked out look great though! I might have to try them out.

    • Yes, I think the Blueprint ones are good…pricey though, unfortunately. Glad to know that others drink juices casually, like me, instead of doing full out juice cleanses.

I did a 3 day juice cleanse one time and I was so cranky & HUNGRY the whole time. I'm never doing that again, but I do like to sub in a juice for a meal/snack here & thereโ€ฆ

I loved this post! I hate my veggies (not v. mature of me, I know), but I've learned the green ones are okay if they don't have kale and have lemons and apples–tart and sweet, not bad! I did a three-day cleanse once and probably will never again, but I do feel healthier if I start the day with a juice every now and again. That's healthy enough for me!

    • Yes, I just had a green one today-I think the apple really helped! It was better than no breakfast at all, which is what I usually do. I had to choke it down a little but I'm glad I did! I couldn't agree with you more-a green juice now and again is healthy enough! Anyway, I'm the same as you…very immature when it comes to veggies ๐Ÿ™‚
