Emma Clegg Pottery

One of my favorite things about The Big Egg Hunt NYC? It introduced me to the work of the fabulously talented Emma Clegg, a UK-based artist who crafts gorgeous ceramic pottery. Some of her pieces are made on a potter’s wheel, while others (and portions of others, like the porcelain flowers) are crafted entirely by hand. She works from her home in the English countryside, where she has set up her studio in an old blacksmith’s forge in the backyard. Her pottery is simple and rustic, but with the perfect touch of femininity and a lovely romantic quality. They’re very much something I would expect to see in ABC Carpet and Home, which if I haven’t mentioned before is the greatest place for home design, oh, just in the entire world. These are handmade, one of a kind items – nothing mass produced or generic. To me, this makes her work incredibly special. Just imagine getting one of these pieces and knowing that the artist painstakingly crafted it by hand in a charming cottage in England, with each one being a tiny bit different from the next…so wonderful.

 Here are my favorites:

This is the egg that started it all (by “all,” I mean my obsession with Emma and her work):

Emma titled it “B,” to bring attention to changes in the environment which cause damage to the honey bee population. I think the ombre is just oh-so perfect. “B” is being auctioned off at Sotheby’s and the bidding is currently at $14,000, though Sotheby’s estimates it’s worth to be “priceless” – and I have to say, I completely agree :). All of the proceeds are going to help schoolchildren in NYC and the endangered Asian elephant. Her egg is so beautiful…I wish I knew exactly how she made it! Emma also participated in London’s Big Egg Hunt last year, and created an equally stunning piece for that.

Emma’s pottery is available for purchase right here, so if you love these as much as I do you might want to scoot on over to her site and scope something out for yourself. Don’t worry, the prices are a lot more budget-friendly than what “B” is going for!

PS – I was just sitting here writing and noticed how very similar Emma’s gorgeous flowers are to the floral Anthropologie knobs I have on my dresser…welp, I’m nothing if not consistent!

The moment that I saw these pieces, I started looking for a place to purchase them. Unfortunately your link does not work, at least on my computer.
I have been hoping for a retail outlet in the U.S. I don’t use social media at all because we have such a hacking problem. Still I am hoping that the artist can get a major retailer to sell her pieces since even her email does not work. HELP!
