Book to Big Screen: the Gone Girl Trailer

Have you guys seen the official Gone Girl trailer? I’m dying to hear what people think!
Personally, I’m totally excited by this because I think it looks SO. GOOD. I’m always really excited to see movies that are based on books that I’ve read…not totally sure why, since they usually turn out very mediocre, but this looks really well-made. The movie was directed by David Fincher, which already puts big points in it’s favor. David Fincher made The Social Network, which is one of my favorite movies (despite not being a big fan of Facebook), and he’s been nominated for two Oscars, so clearly, the man knows how to make a good movie. I think the trailer looks stylish, creepy, tense, and just all-around well-done.
I’m also very intrigued to see how the movie differs from the book. Gillian Flynn wrote both the novel and the movie, and has made it clear in interviews that a lot has been changed, including the ending. It seems like a really difficult book to bring to the big screen, just based on how it’s structured and the alternating narratives, so it makes sense that she would change it. That also makes it all the more exciting for viewers because even if you’ve read the book, it’s still going to be a somewhat new story. Plus as much as I like Ben Affleck, I haven’t been very interested in his movie roles over the years, so I’m excited to finally see him in something that appeals to me.
Also, totally random: I love the typeface they used at the end for “Gone Girl”…these are the weird sorts of things that I notice.
Anyone else psyched to see this? It comes out in October. How do you think it will compare to the book?

I'm a huge fan of seeing books come to life in movies and on TV too and I'm so pumped to see Gone Girl. I wasn't a huge fan of the ending of the book so I wouldn't mind seeing a bit of a change. I really like that they casted Ben Affleck to play Nick, he fits the part.

  2. I absolutely loved Gone Girl so I can't wait for the movie to come out. I think the casting is awesome – I am just interested to see how it ends. I just hope it doesn't end up with Amy dying because that's so anti how the book is.

Stunning trailer. Love the song choice. Have not read the book but could not get over the parallels of a similar scenario in my hometown of Brisbane.

    • Oh, that's terrible… I'm sorry to hear that something like that happened in your hometown. I agree, love the song choice as well.

I'm excited to see this! Gone Girl was one of my favorite books last year–I'm a little scared at the thought of them changing the plot up, but I bet it will be amazing regardless!

    • I'm hoping that since the same author wrote the book and movie, it will be good changes only!

    • I don't know, I guess they thought it wouldn't play out well on the big screen…excited to see what they do though!

LOVED the book and kind of fascinated there's no Neil Patrick Harris in the trailer but willing to ignore that Tyler Perry is.

  8. Ahh I cannot wait for this movie to come out! I'm also a Ben Affleck fan but haven't loved anything that he's been in lately. The book was so thrilling, I hope they don't lose that sort of uneasiness that you feel when reading it.

By the way…I noticed that you're reading "The Silent Wife" I finished it a couple of weeks ago. What do you think so far??
