A Floating Park

Has anyone visited the High Line in NYC? It’s the most amazing park built on an old railroad track that literally floats above the city. It’s all the way on the west side and runs from Meatpacking to West 34th. I went on a gorgeous fall day with my mom and my sister and we had a blast admiring all the cool foliage that was planted around the old original railroad ties that remained along the edges. As you walk there are lots of little nooks to sit and hang out, complete with wooden lounge chairs and cafe tables. There was even a little food stand selling hot chocolate and cupcakes! And as you stroll you have the most amazing views of the Hudson River on one side and good old New York City on the other.

Another great aspect of the High Line is that when you come down to street level there are some great restaurants and shops nearby to visit! With my mom and my sister I went to Tipsy Parson, located on 9th Avenue between 19th & 20th Sts, and had the BEST lunch! It was an odd time of day so the place was actually empty (that honestly NEVER happens in NYC), and we sat in the cozy little window seat. The food was American with a homey, Southern feel to it.

LOVE and adore this wallpaper.

The cute window seating area across from our’s.
Loved these gorgeous chairs. Look at the swirly arms!

The very charming bar

My mom had yummy mac and cheese, my sister a catfish po’boy, and I had the most crispy, delicious french fries and the Tipsy Parson-a sundae cup filled with an almond cake soaked in brandy, topped with vanilla custard, brandied dried fruit, and sliced almonds. YUM!! (I see no problem with combining french fries and dessert). We also had cheerwine sodas. What is cheerwine, you ask? (Don’t feel bad, we had to ask the waitress too). It’s most common in the south, and it’s basically a cherry flavored soda but believe me, it’s no Cherry Coke. As in, it’s much better. Sort of reminded me of a Shirley Temple but much more mild and grown-up tasting.

I can’t wait to go back again and take some pics of the food before I gobble it down!

Those are great pics of the Highline. Nice to see an overview of it, since it's so tough to describe to people.

NEED to go back and post pics of the food there since it was GREAT.
