A Few Good Links

I loved Melissa Clark’s video and short article about simple syrups in the New York Times Dining section (no surprise there, since I have a fondness for sugar). It was interesting to learn that simple syrup adds more than just sweetness to a drink, but also texture and flavor (depending on what type of sugar you choose to use). After watching the video, I will definitely be ordering a sidecar at the next bar I visit.
Did you know that if you’re eating a food item that isn’t organic, then the food you’re eating most likely contains GMOs (genetically modified organisms), the long-term effects of which have not been studied? And did you know that tons of countries worldwide require foods containing GMOs (aka, basically all non-organic foods) to be labeled as such-but the US isn’t one of them? To me, that is lame. Here’s a great article from a great site explaining a bit about this big issue. Go to Just Label It and take literally 10 seconds to help protest this ridiculousness. We have a right to know what’s in our food!
Halloween is almost here-and I loved Bookpage’s list of 13 of the year’s creepiest books. My favorite creepy reads of all time are The Little Stranger and Rosemary’s Baby, and I’m psyched to read Carrie for the first time (then see the new movie). Do you guys have any great creepy reads to recommend? Please share in the comments!

I was excited to see Erika’s post on Kelly Wearstler’s new stationery line for Paperless Post-it’s utterly gorgeous, of course!

Keep up with York Avenue!

I just took action on Just Label It! I've always been a strong supporter or organic everything. I don't think anyone should even have to buy in a separate section of the store because they don't want GMO's or high fructose corn syrup in their food. It's ridiculous but I'm so glad you posted that link!

  3. I agree with you 100%! You're so right, it shouldn't be a struggle to find organic food. I'm so glad you signed the petition! Every little bit helps, I think. Hope you had a great weekend!
